Children learning no-gi Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals at 10th Planet Orange Park

Physical Chess

What Is No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu for Kids?

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art practiced without the traditional uniform — just rash guards and shorts. For kids, this means a fast-paced, engaging class where they learn to use technique and leverage instead of strength.

The 10th Planet system is built on problem-solving, creativity, and constant learning — making it one of the most mentally engaging activities your child can participate in. It’s physical chess, and kids love it.

Competition Opportunities for Young Athletes

Our youth regularly compete in regional grappling tournaments — and they bring home medals. Our Wednesday night competition class is open to both kids and adults who want to sharpen their skills for tournament day.

Competition is never mandatory, but for kids who want that extra challenge, we provide the training, the preparation, and the team support to help them shine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start?

Our kids classes are designed for children starting around age 5 through age 12. Teens 12+ can join our teen/adult program.

Is martial arts safe for kids?

Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. All sparring is controlled and supervised, techniques are age-appropriate, and our coaches are trained to work with young students. Coach Storm’s background in Sports Medicine means every drill is designed with safety in mind.

Will martial arts make my child aggressive?

The opposite. Martial arts teaches kids how to manage conflict, respect boundaries, and use self-control. Students who train consistently tend to be calmer, more focused, and better equipped to handle difficult situations.

Do you offer kids Muay Thai too?

Yes. We offer kids Muay Thai on select evenings and Saturday mornings. Check our schedule for specific times.

What should my child wear?

Athletic clothing — shorts, a T-shirt or rash guard. No uniform or special equipment needed to start. We’ll let you know if anything else is needed as they progress.
